1. DFI is a short acronym for Diversifying [Higher Education] Faculty in Illinois.

2. Senate Bill 3107, which was signed into law August 4, 2004 as Public Act 093-0862, called for the establishing of the Diversifying Higher Education Faculty in Illinois fellowship program, as well as the appointment of a new 21-member Program Board.

4. Yes, the annual Joint Fellows Conference continues to be held in November, or the end of October depending on the availability of hotel space.

NOTE: Currently funded DFI fellows are required to attend this annual conference.Absences must be approved prior to conference. Serious penalties will be imposed for non-attendance of current fellows if absences are not approved .

Former DFI, IMGIP, and ICEOP fellows are invited and encouraged to attend and participate in various components of the conference. If you wish to participate, please send an email to: fellows@siu.edu.

7. Any institution of higher education in Illinois that offers post-baccalaureate academic programs may participate in DFI.

Institutions must review the DFI Guidelines section on Institutional Membership, Institutional Responsibilities, and DFI Institutional Representative Responsibilities and agree to abide by the rules set forth in the guidelines. Such agreement must be stated in writing in a letter of interest from the institutional president .The letter should addressed to the DFI Administrator at the DFI Administrative Office.

8. Deadlines vary from institution to institution, but is no later than March 1st prior to the academic year for which one is applying for fellowship.

Contact the institutional representative at the institution to which you are admitted for the specific application deadline at that institution.

9. ICEOP fellows awarded prior to January 1, 2004 are/were bound by the rules of the ICEOP contract, even if their funding continued beyond January 1, 2004 and into subsequent funding years. ICEOP fellows were grandfathered in under their original ICEOP contract stipulations.
